A Kinematic Analysis Software for dysphagia.
The term dysphagia refers to all abnormalities that can occur during the entire process of oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal stages of food intake. Dysphagia can cause minor problems such as delayed meal times, discomfort, and coughing during meals, as well as serious issues such as malnutrition, dehydration, and aspiration pneumonia, and can even lead to death, making it a very critical disease that requires extreme caution. Dysphagia can occur due to various factors, especially when the upper esophageal sphincter fails to open properly, leading to the aspiration of food into the airway, which can result in complications such as aspiration pneumonia and death.
So far, only qualitative analysis has been possible through videofluoroscopic swallowing studies, and there has been a limitation in quantitative analysis. However, our research team has developed a program that quantitatively analyzes videofluoroscopic swallowing studies using our own algorithm. By applying this program, videofluoroscopic swallowing studies can be quantitatively analyzed in a short time, which can lead to an improvement in the quality of medical care.
This research result has been published as papers in international academic journals such as Dysphagia journal in 2017 and Scientific report in 2019, and has been recognized for its excellence.
